In pictures: Washington DC

We went through to DC for a few days as we have friends there. It was a flying trip but great fun. I last went there as a child and I barely remember it so I enjoyed seeing another non NYC American city. It’s very historic by US standards but a bit younger by UK standards! And everything is a museum!

Lincoln memorial

Washington monument from the Lincoln memorial

The White House! Through the gate and on zoom. You can’t get very close!

River by night

Dinner! Pizza! I love pizza! This was at a great restaurant called Fishers or something like that. Seemed very popular. It served home made type food – nobody else had pizza, but I love pizza.

Huge slice of cake – hand for scale. I ate less than half!

Our friend’s fat cat! I was in hysterics when I saw him.

The other cat – he’s new and doesn’t quite know what to make of everyone just yet.

Stash of British chocolate we brought them – one of them is Scottish so misses it. They were happy. We got almost as much at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween party – but not quite!

Smithsonian air and space museum. I kind of think this was cool but also was overwhelmed by how many museums there are in Washington – there’s one for everything!

A giant ice cream!  This cost $4. He said he was giving me my money’s worth!

I’m not one of those people who hates Starbucks. I love Starbucks.
The Jefferson memorial – they like their  dead presidents in DC.

Smithsonian Museum of American History – flag made out of Lego

Not sure how they got out of sequence – I think the earlier ones were taken from the tourist bus. (It’s a bit sketchy but T had hurt his toe so couldn’t walk.) I liked this one best.

We went to this place called Gravelly Point (I think?) where the planes come in really low over a park. I kept jumping to try and touch them but didn’t quite make it!

On our last night our friends took us to Ben’s chili bowl which is apparently a DC institution. It looks disgusting but was tasty!

Although they haven’t yet gotten round to removing Bill Cosby as one of the reasons to go there…

Popped in here for dessert. Amazing!

Final view of the station in Washington. It’s pretty nice!

It is really nice! Very picturesque and so much to do. We only had two nights / one whole day and we could easily have spent longer there. Oh and all the museums are free!

To be honest, the times I ate there were always on the way home from the bars, so at the time the food tasted extra DE-licious! 😉

Yes! There were loads of school kids in the museums. They all wear matching t shirts – it’s so cute!

  6. Ahhh I’ve grown a small affection for DC!! It is not really a city like NYC or Chicago , but loads to do there!

You are an awesome friend for carrying all that chocolate stash with you the whole time!!

I need to know what that pink-chocolate dessert thing was!! It looks pretty good 🙂

It was a snowball! Marshmallow filled chocolate cake with marshmallow outside and covered in coconut. I don’t love coconut but it was too enticing to say no to, and it was very tasty!
Yeah, they were really pleased with the choccie stash – but they put us up for two nights so I thought it was a fair exchange! 🙂

Hahaha. It’s a deal! We did see Virginia across the river! 🙂 I went a bit mad in Tesco before we left and tried to find stuff you can’t get in the US – I then realised there is plenty of Nutella! 😂

  7. DC is fantastic. I’ve only gotten to spend a day there and it wasn’t nearly long enough, but J goes every year with the 8th graders and they get to see so many things, and yes, a ton of museums! You got a way better and closer pic of the White House than I did. So happy you enjoyed it!

Ha! I zoomed in big time on the iPhone – I was really far away! We just went to the air and space museum and passed by the entrance to the American history one. Judging by that I’d have preferred the American history one (our hosts recommended air and space, but they’re boys!) so I’ll have to do that one next time! You should definitely go back if you can!
