IVF 2, WTF?!

on

(Warning: Typical IVF related TMI.)

So I’m on day 20 or something of my cycle, and yesterday I got what is pretty sure is my period. My period isn’t due for 2 weeks, so in effect I’ve had a two week cycle?! (I know people get breakthrough bleeding and stuff but this was fresh red blood and even some clots?!)

What the hell is going on, body?

I’m supposed to start down regulation with Buserelin in around a month, but that’s based on my March period being in March, not February!

Also, I’ve never had such a short cycle. I usually have long cycles rather than short ones… 30-35 days and occasionally longer.

I’m a bit confused and not quite sure what to do…

Help!

Any chance it is implantation bleeding?!?

That would be a nice thought! But it was loads of blood… I assume implantation bleeding is not that much blood?!

I don’t know. I’ve heard it can be mistaken for a period. Apologies if this comment was irresponsible! I actually just took a pregnancy test this morning but I am used to them being negative. So you could rule out implantation bleeding by taking a test in a few days but I know how hard that can be if you’re expecting a negative but hoping for a positive.
It would be best to get advice from a gynaecologist.

  3. Ive found fertility treatment can mess around my cycles a lot but usually after an IVF cycle. Is your clinic any help?

Thanks! I last had fertility treatment a year ago! And I’m pretty regular, long cycle – shortest is 28 days but usually it’s more like 35. Really odd. I can ask my clinic but they tend not to respond very quickly! I’m not due to take anything until end of March anyway.

ugh, that’s so frustrating and weird. I would count it a s CD1 if it continues like a normal period. I hate the way our bodies do these sorts of things to throw us off balance.

It’s so odd as I never have weird periods, aside from them being really heavy. Although I have lost a bit of weight since the beginning of the year- around 4.5kg. Not sure if that would have affected it?

Possibly – it’s difficult to say. I wonder if it could be a result from your surgery? My periods go through phases of going for a few years of being one way and then they change to being another way. I used to get them every 3 weeks and then I had cycles between 25 and 35 days then I had cycles of 28 days without fail. Now they are going erratic again so I know this doesn’t help when yours have been so regular but I know they can do odd things… grrr!

Yeah, they weren’t really weird since the surgery in December though. It’s so strange! I am still bleeding but it’s not super heavy like my periods usually are. It’s more like day 1 of my period. Confusing! I can email my clinic but I’m not quite sure what to say!

Very confusing – I hope you can get to the bottom of it and that it doesn’t get in the way of your upcoming IVF. I guess once you’re on all the drugs, they will control your cycle so hopefully it won’t be a problem in respect of your treatment.

  6. Unsure of any advice I can give but our bodies are strange. Hugs your way! So many things are shifting in your life…maybe your body is responding to it all. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing! 🙂

  7. I would def email your clinic and explain what’s going on and tell them it’s not as heavy as a regular period. I think they can do some sort of test to see if it’s actually your period? Like if your estrogen and progesterone are at the levels they’re supposed to be at to start a period, then it’s probably legit. I would also take a pregnancy test, and then retest again in a few days if it’s negative, just to be sure. I think this exact thing happened to Emily Maine the cycle she got pregnant, or something like that anyway. Bodies are so weird! Xo.

Thank you! I’ve emailed my clinic to see what they say. It’s the NHS so they don’t tend to do extra tests… Will wait and see what they say!

  8. This also happened to me. It probably IS your period – your cycles may just be messed up because of stress/pure chance/age. There really is no rhyme or reason to it. You should let your clinic know but they probably won’t do much – hopefully things will even out and your next period will be within a standard time frame. Don’t worry about it, I started wondering if I was having early menopause and my doc did the medical equivalent of a ‘calm down dear; 😉

I hope the clinic gets back to you soon (my suggestion was to call them. But looks like you already did that). I wish I had something else to suggest. Good luck.

It seems like it’s always when we have things in order to start our new cycle, that our body freaks out and throws a wrench in the works!! Did you call your Dr and see what they say about it? Or are you in the weekend already and they are closed? I hope they can help you sort it all out!!

I’ve emailed them but it’s the NHS and they’re not that great at responding! I’m not due to start the Buserelin (down regulation) until end of March so I have a bit of time to sort it out. Hopefully they’ll come back to me! It’s more about starting the down regulation 21 days ish after your period. It’s weird because I’m usually really regular and it was only two days of bleeding. Who knows what my body’s doing?!
