In pictures: edible delights and ideal homes

on

Well yesterday’s post was a bit heavy, so here’s some nicer things. Including cake!

WordPress likes to upload things in a random order so here you go. It’s a lucky dip of recent photos!

My colleague who left obviously deserved a cake (fair swap for better desk, I figure). Problem was, I had to decorate it the night I got back slightly tipsy after her leaving do. At least it stopped me from staying out too late! The outside bit is white chocolate and then inside was chocolate truffle cake, white chocolate icing and lots of chocolate drops on top. Pretty much the same as the Easter birthday cake only with white chocolate wrapping and a few less eggs! And you probably can’t tell but it’s much smaller!

We took friends out for breakfast so went to our usual breakfast place and sat in the sun. It was great. It’s sort of fun to see London through visitors’ eyes and show them the hidden gems (like our favourite breakfast place).

It was a great week for hot chocolate! Weirdly I got two free hot chocolates at work. I must have looked in need of them. (I love the guys in our cafeteria. They are so nice. They always make it extra chocolatey for me and laugh about how I want a “choccy choc”.) Also Starbucks (my favourite) was running a promotion for card holders which was any size hot chocolate and a brownie for £3.50, so of course I had to go for the Venti with whipped cream. (Can’t think why I’m getting fat.)

The future concept house at the Ideal Home show. It’s really cool! We got to go in it. Not sure it would be all that practical with full glass windows at each end!

We saw George Clarke from Amazing Spaces, Restoration Man and (drumroll) Shed of the Year! He’s quite tall.

I finally broke open my Easter eggs from my BFF. Delicious!

The Ideal Home show at Kensington Olympia. Lots of rather garish fake grass!

My T really is the best human in the world. He knows I love this place in Lille, France because we go there on the Eurostar and always insist on visiting. It’s called Aux Merveilleux de Fred and it’s amazing. You can see them making “merveilleux” (marvels) in the window of the shop and there’s always a massive queue outside. Merveilleux are made out of meringue, whipped cream and covered in chocolate flakes and taste amazing. Anyway he found out they’ve opened a place in Kensington! Omg. So he took me there at the weekend on the way to the Ideal Home Show and we had Merveilleux. They really are happiness in edible form. And T is the happy maker!

Oh he’s amazing. He told me he found out about it as he was going to request someone to bring some back from France, and then looked up the details and realised there’s one in London now. (2 actually, but both quite far away from where we live/work.) So he planned the route to the Ideal Home Show to go past it! Luckily I am clueless about directions so had no idea he was planning it. It was really sweet as I REALLY love Merveilleux and he knew I was feeling bad because of the down regulation.

If I wasn’t anon on the blog I would share my constant happy moments with Dog, too! 😍

Thanks! Yes you should definitely try Merveilleux if you have a chance – I think they do them outside of France so you might be able to find some! They’re soooo yum! ☺️

Aw shucks! It was a bit of a tipsy cake tbh! The breakfast is soooo good – best breakfast in London, from this tiny place that you have to wait for as they can only cook 2 at a time, and we had 6 humans and 2 dogs! Was totally worth the wait! ☺️

      1. I know you! 😉 You are happy but not a ridiculous person, unseeing of things that need improvement.

Haha. I always imagine I’m too ebullient to be fully British and too sarcastic to be American! 😂

T is a good man! And you are an amazing cake maker. How on earth do you do that wrap?? It looks fiddly but that doesn’t usually deter me and so effective!

Yeah he’s definitely the best human I’ve met! 😍

The wrap is made from chocolate plastique. Some people call it modelling chocolate. It’s basically a mixture of chocolate and syrup which forms a dough and then you can roll it out or make models from it! Not really fiddly although it depends how much you’ve had to drink when you’re trying to do it! 😉

  7. Oh my goodness chocoholic heaven!!! That cake – flip!! And the french delicacy I have no idea how to pronounce, goodness me! I feel so dissatisfied with my lunch right now! 😂 If ever we make it back to London you’ll have to share where the best breakfast is so I can go 😊

  8. You totally made me salivate with this post!!! But you maybe surprised to hear that is was the COOKED BREAKFAST that did it mostly!!!! I miss proper bacon and baked beans that aren’t cooked in brown sugar or maple syrup!!!

I love that T surprised you with Aux Merveilleux de Fred!!! It does look like a really yummy marvel!! I googled them and there is a newish shop open in NYC! But that’s a little too far for me to go 😦 I’ll just have to try it next time I’m in London!!!!

All these happy things must be countering any potential side effects from the down reg?? (I hope so anyway!!!) Not long now til stimming!!! Whoop whoop!!! 🙂
