IVF 2: What’s this all about then? (18.5 weeks)

I’m still here! I have like a million excuses as to why I’ve been blogging so seldom, but I’m sure you’re all sick of hearing them so I’ll just say sorry (because I’m sure you’re waiting on the edge of your seat for my update *British sarcasm*) and hope that I can remember all the stuff I need to catch you up on!

Firstly I’m glad that you all seem to be going strong! Blogging is sort of weird for me as I only started about a year and a bit ago, and I’d never done it before, and it’s not necessarily a reciprocal relationship like Facebook, but it’s different and more detailed than Twitter. I still have people who I follow who never comment on my blog, and then there are probably people who follow me who I don’t follow… So it’s all a bit strange. (I pretty much follow people who comment, though!) It is really cool to know that lots of you are making progress. And I hope for some of my infertility blogger friends who are still trying that it is all looking good for you. I know it was really tough this time last year knowing everyone was making progress and I was recovering from a miscarriage, so I absolutely don’t take it for granted. I still don’t think I have fully accepted this pregnancy, but as each day goes by, I hope a little more.

Anyway, excuse number 1: my commute! I mentioned this on my last post I think but it is super fun, and it means I get to spend quality time with T, because we travel partly the same route, and we get seats next to each other (and he always lets me have the window seat! Ain’t he a keeper!) and so we chat and eat our breakfast apples (how coupley!) rather than me reading and blogging. Sorry! But I’m glad to spend some decent quality time!

Here’s a pic:

Oh heck, here’s another one… That big sticky up building is called The Shard, a London landmark (where you may recall I took my team a few weeks ago!). The tourists get super excited when we see this! And Tower Bridge which is nearby. This is my window view from the boat!

It’s especially lovely to have had a little dog walk round our nice new area with Dog, and have a fun boat ride… all before 9 o’clock! It also gets me in nice and early to work, even to the point that I have time to go and get a nice breakfast. I seem to have a bit of a craving for hot breakfast rolls (bacon!) or maybe it’s just greed… I have to leave a bit earlier than getting the train, but it’s a much more pleasant way to travel!

Anyway, believe it or not I’m at 18+5 weeks. That’s crazy. It’s pregnancy update time!

Symptom alert

  • The most mind blowing thing is that over the past week and a bit, I’ve had something that I think might be the flutterings of B (for baby!) kicking… I still am not 100% sure, but it’s a few weird sensations and I’ve been doing a lot of paranoid googling and come to the conclusion that it might just be The Quickening, as they call it. I guess I’ll have more of an idea if they get stronger and more frequent. It sort of feels like bubbles popping, as some people describe it, or a few little flutters, or twinges. I can’t really tell. Also, I think The Quickening sounds like a horror movie…
  • OMG THE BOOBS. Seriously. I went last week to go and get some new bras, because they’re just getting out of control. Aside from the itchiness, which is seriously not fun, but decreasing a bit, they’ve been super sore and sensitive and they look like giant red beacons. Anyway, for reference, my usual size is 32C. I went to Mothercare (a maternity/baby shop in the UK) and what do I come away with but nursing bras in… 36DD! WTF I have giant bazookas. I think the lady on the till was actually laughing at my concern and told me that I’d probably be back again as they’d grow even more! WUT?!
  • Related to the humungaboobs, Welcome To Stretch Mark City. Population: ME. OMG, my boobs are just like a giant red stretch mark, despite my judicious morning and evening application of supposed stretch mark decreasing condiments (okay they’re maybe not edible but the cocoa butter sure smells like it). I even splashed out on some Bio Oil just in case it works. It definitely hasn’t so far. I just smell of chocolate and my general texture is greasy-boobed. Nice. Also, I discovered a few days ago I’ve got some stretch marks on my stomach. Woe is me.
  • I actually have a big belly now. T finds it partly funny and partly (my interpretation) a bit alarming. See pics below. Quite honestly I’m amazed nobody at work has noticed, but I’ve taken to wearing scarves (so not me!) which maybe detracts from the bump. Or maybe I’m kidding myself. I’m “out” with my boss but I haven’t told anyone else yet. I feel like I might be willing to do that after our 20 week scan, only to work people. There will be no pregnancy announcement on FB!
  • I’ve actually had a slightly lesser appetite, or maybe it’s more that I don’t want to eat the same things I usually want to eat (like pizza). If anything my cravings have been more for fruit and relatively healthy stuff, like Asian food. I’ve had a big thing for chicken satay, but despite various hunts round London, I haven’t found the perfect one yet!
  • It’s boiling here so lots of discomfort. Oh and the eight flights of stairs to our new (still quite new!) apartment! Seriously what were we thinking! I still love the place though and at least I feel motivated to get home all the time because Dog is here. I definitely feel quite breathless a lot of the time.
  • Hayfever. The heat is NOT helping this. I can’t take stuff so I have an attractive nasal spray which sprays sea water(?) up my nostrils! Quite funny but it does help. This means I’ve not slept very well the past few weeks, because as soon as I lie down, my head seems to fill with snot. Super attractive! Apparently you get increased nose bleeds too, and I’ve definitely had bleeding issues due to the nasal irritation. Not fun but I’m hoping hayfever season is over soon.
  • The sleeping! Terrible. The hayfever combined with the backache from having to sleep on my left hand side (as recommended) is so bad. I have ordered a DreamGenii maternity pillow because I am really hoping I can get more sleep and less backache! I basically wake up with back pain and unable to breathe because my nose is bunged up and it’s not ideal at this stage.

In summary: Generally though I feel okay in myself, apart from feeling much larger than I usually am. I mean, I’m only 18 and a bit weeks (nearly 19!) but I feel like I’m double my usual size, which is quite discombobulating. As T and I were discussing… There are 2 types of pregnant woman – the ones who look just the same with a bump, and the ones who go double the size and morph into Jabba the Hut… Guess which one I am?! Sod’s law!

Okay so I’m sort of shy but I wanted to show an illustration of how sort-of-pregnant-maybe I look. (Don’t be mean!) This was taken last week in Mothercare (because I have no actual full length mirror in my house… Yeah, it shows) and I thought it was worth pointing out the belly. I think you could say now that if I’m fat, I’m pretty amazed that it’s all gone on the stomach.

Funnily enough those jeans are New Look size 8 UK (size 4 US I think) which is sort of hilarious but goes to show that a) New Look knows how to do vanity sizing, and b) maternity jeans are super stretchy! Oh well… I’ll take what I can get!

Whilst we’re on the case, we can talk about: My TOMS addiction… I think when everything is so growing and out of control that it’s nice to have shoes! TOMS are these kind of basic canvas shoes which have a bit of a social conscience, so if you buy a pair they give a pair to someone who needs them. Quite aside from that nice aspect I love TOMS because they are slip ones and I don’t have to find any socks! And hilariously I now have a TOMS tan on my feet. (I’m not showing you that though because it looks demented.)

They had a sale on so I got my latest pair, a new kind I hadn’t tried before in leather. I love them!

Aside from that I have bought a few things to try and ease me into maternity wear. As I’m not completely “out” at work (ie I work with a client and I haven’t told any of them, but my boss knows and HR knows) I have not really been dressing the bump. For the fun of it, here’s my list of what has and hasn’t worked for me so far.

Maternity buys (UK focused)

  • Maternity jeans. I have some blue jeans from M&S which were my first purchase, but I am now living in the black ones in the picture because they are a bit more flattering (possibly) and I generally prefer black anyway. They were about half the price of the M&S ones (New Look is a cheap high street store) and I think they are great, apart from the annoying rips in the knees which they seem to put on all maternity jeans. Weird. Maybe I should sew them up! (I’m short though so the holes don’t show that much as they bunch up around my stubby legs.) £22 each from New Look; the M&S ones were something like £38.
  • Maternity Breton tops. I kind of live in them anyway (stripey French inspired tops in two colours, usually blue and white) and so I have the maternity version too. I can still wear the big ones but the maternity ones like in the picture are quite handy. They were from New Look too – 2 for £12 so really cheap.
  • Maternity sleep/casual soft bras. I got to the point the other week where my boobs were SO SORE that I needed to wear something that wasn’t a too-tight bra. I tend to wear non underwired bras anyway – or I have since starting IVF the first time, last year, so it’s not that (they usually come from Uniqlo) but more that my boobs are super tender and sore now. So I did a bunch of Amazon searches and found bras from Kindred Bravely. They are really soft, like t shirt material but a bit stronger, and really comfortable. I have one in M and one in L! They’re great for sitting around the house… Usually I am a bra-free person at home, but they’re just uncomfortable like that now, so it’s good to have something that works. I have even worn the bras out and they survive, although don’t really give enough support now I’ve moved into DD territory! About £12 each.
  • Maternity shorts. These are seriously unsexy but so necessary when wearing a dress! They’re like cycling shorts crossed with shape wear. Usually I do wear shape wear with light support under dresses, because since I started IVF and put on weight, I don’t like to have my thighs rub together (ugh). But the shorts I had were getting too tight to contain the bump so I had a silly interim solution with a belly band, so it’s nice to have some shorts that are all one piece! I got mine from Be Mammy via Amazon (I get like almost my whole life on Amazon!) – I have size M but I’ve ordered S as I think that I’m still at the stage where I could cope with a bit more support. £12.90 each.
  • Nursing bras. My gosh I needed some larger more supportive bras, and nursing bras seem to be more structured – you sort of get nursing bras all the time at this size, so I figure I might as well. They’re so big they fit on Dog’s head. Poor Dog! I got mine at Mothercare in a double pack, 2 for £30.
  • Lotions! I have a few now. Cocoa butter lotion for stretch marks, cocoa butter belly butter (which I don’t really get as it’s rock hard and I think that may be a fault with the seller – on Amazon – I got it from), and Bio Oil. Cocoa butter was quite cheap, around £4. Bio Oil is insanely expensive! £8.99 for a tiny bottle!
  • Scarves! So funny as I am sooooo not a scarf person. I always used to sort of laugh at the fact that senior women at work always wore scarves. But… They really do detract from the bump. As long as I wear black in the background, and have a bright coloured scarf on, I don’t think people notice so much. Lots to choose from! I got a couple from Primark (the cheapest shop in the world apart from the pound shop) for about £4 each, and one on, you guessed it, Amazon for £9.
  • Maternity dresses. I now have a few… The first one I got was from – wait for it – Amazon! It’s from Zeta Ville, a black wrap dress, and I wore it to my family do a couple of weeks ago. £13.70. I have a couple from Mamalicious on Amazon that were super cheap, £9-£15. And then I have a couple of expensive ones from Seraphine which I haven’t even worn yet because… Well, I don’t like them. Urgh. I think I just got them because it’s what’s expected here in the UK if you want some sort of high end maternity wear. I guess I’ll maybe wear it eventually but tbh I should have sent them back. They’re more expensive, around £40 in the sale. And I got some stuff from Jojo Maman Bébé – half of which I sent back, but I did keep one tailored black dress which has proven a lifesaver for work now that I’m squeezing out of my non-maternity work clothes. It’s very subtle and bump brushing rather than bump hugging so you don’t really tell I’m pregnant whilst I’m wearing the scarves! Weirdly I didn’t like any of the others I ordered, and sent them back. It was £39.
  • Pregnancy pillow. I got the Dream Genii as it seems to be the most popular. I don’t know as I think I might need something bigger. But T will be glad of still having a tiny space in bed! £36.99 on… Amazon!

Next steps

We have the 20 week scan (NHS) next week. I can’t believe we might make it to 20 weeks! Also I have the appointment to talk with the midwife after that, to talk about my birth anxieties (because my doctor wants to reconsider my idea of wanting an elective Caesarian). She was super nice on the phone. Like, I am so not into the idea of going through natural childbirth but… I am willing to be convinced. We will see!

After that – next milestone is the private detailed scan at 22 weeks, mid September. It’s optional, but we would like it after the guy did such a nice job at our other scan. You definitely get more time and attention if you pay for it!

We are also thinking we will get a 3D/4D scan once it’s advised – most of them say after 24-25 weeks as apparently before then B will look like a skeleton! We are keen to find out what his face looks like!

I would also love to have a baby shower, and my friends and sister have said they’d be up for organising it. It’s really not such a big thing in the UK, so we don’t so much have rules or anything, and the mums probably won’t get overly involved. We definitely don’t get expensive stuff on registries like in the US/elsewhere! It’s more of a little gathering. So I’m wondering when we would have that. Probably November or December as I’m due in January. Here’s hoping we get to do that!

I don’t think you look fat like you keep saying, I think you just have a baby bump! Glad things are going well, and exciting that you’re feeling B! I can’t believe you’re almost halfway there already, it’s gone so fast. Good luck on your next scan!!

Well that’s nice to know! I think once I switch over to actual maternity clothes I’ll feel less fat and more pregnant. It is nuts to think I might be feeling B! I can’t tell… How did you figure it out with Cadence, or was it just a case of more wriggles? I can’t believe I’m almost halfway either… Crazy!

I dunno, I just knew it was her. The first time I felt her, it was like a little trail of bubbles across the inside of my belly. The next couple times it felt like someone poking me with a finger from the inside out. After that it felt like when you hold a bag with fish in it (I’ve had aquariums my whole life, so I know this feeling well) but in my belly, not against my hand. Now I just feel kicks/punches and rolls!

Oh that’s great! I have definitely felt more of the bubbles or flutters. I guess I just thought it was going to be harder! I suppose that comes over time. T tells me I’ll be wishing I hadn’t wished for B to kick me once he starts in earnest! 😂

Ok… It’s time for me to say it. Please stop saying things like, “if we get to 20 weeks.”. 😁 Being cautious and negative does not make a loss any easier than being excited and optimistic. It’s time to embrace this pregnancy and enjoy it…. Because in just 10 weeks or so, It’s going to get physically uncomfortable and not so fun. “When we get to 20 weeks,” “when the baby arrived,” “WHEN we bring him home.”. Please, seriously, make the shift. You will be so happy that you did!

I do not have Toms. Maybe I should.

You are totally showing. I promise you, everyone at work knows 😉

Thanks for the pep talk! 😉 You are right. I need to allow myself to get excited. It just seems so surreal right now. T and I do talk about “when” though, I promise you! We make up scenarios about embarrassing him at school (through over enthusiastic cheering at school events) and so on… So I think I’m getting there! T is way more optimistic than I am. I am feeling slightly better now I have a few flutters and actually look pregnant (I think I definitely do today in a maternity dress!).

You should totes get TOMS. They’re so easy! No sock matching! Although you’re super sporty so you might find they don’t have as much support as you’re used to. They are so simple… I love them!

Yeah I have a feeling there may be some gossip in the office today! Summer heat wave here and I wore a maternity dress! 😂

Oh you look so cute and not fat at all! A definite bump though. I would hold off on getting too many more bras. Although your boobs might have a larger stage in the newborn phase your rib cage will actually decrease meaning you need less around the middle. I think the smaller you are and the shorter your torso (mine is quite short) the more your ribs need to expand for all your organs. I noticed it a lot this time. My tight bras from pregnancy actually fit nicely now.

As for birth, do what you feel is best for you. I hear recoveries from planned ceaser sate way easier than emergency ones. I have had both a c-section and a natural birth and if I had a third I would go for a natural birth again. My caesar experience was tainted by other things (such as massively long labour, infection and need for a general so I was asleep) but even with my complications after the natural birth the recovery was much shorter and I’d choose that again. However the only persons opinion on this who really matters is yours. It is your body, your baby and you need to be happy with your birth experience. If you go natural without really wanting it then you will likely hate it for example as it certainly isn’t “easy” but neither birth is. Birth no matter how the baby arrives is hard on the body. So it is just a matter of choosing which tricky bits you get to experience 🙂 xxx

Thank you! I never knew that about boobs. Quite frankly I feel like mine are out of control! I had to get the new bras because they just hurt so much. I’m hopeful that I won’t have to get more and they’re going to get smaller again! T saw me doing my cocoa butter boob massage last night and first of all said “blimey” and then offered to help! 😂

My torso is really short. Because I am short! As we say in the UK I am a short arse! I definitely noticed that I felt some stretching around my ribs in the last week or so.

As for Caesarian, I totally am on board with it based on your experiences! I am happy to discuss with the midwife but I really can’t see me changing my mind… We shall see though! Apparently the eight flights of stairs plus the 24 stairs in our actual apartment (between the bedroom and the bathroom!) may affect my ability to recover from a caesarian…!

  9. Fantastically shaped bump 🙂 Looks like a proper pregnancy one. If you’re on the hunt for cheapish maternity stuff I have found some really nice stuff on EBAY – including maternity work trousers which have been a lifesaver! ASOS also have some absolutely beautiful maternity dresses, so I treated myself to a couple of those as well. However, they do actually make you look properly pregnant… so don’t wear those until you’re properly ‘out’. I had to come out with my boss at about 11 weeks as I was showing already!

I’m glad I’m not the only one which weird symptoms! But I am slightly jealous about the boobs. That was the symptom I was hoping for… I’m at 20+3 days and still at 34B 😦

Really like the scarf idea though. Might have to pinch that over the Autumn/Winter 🙂 (Primark here I come!)

Also love your commute to work BTW… super jealous.

Thank you! Just checked out your blog. I am messy too! Don’t think I will ever change though! 😂

I am SOOO hot right now I don’t think I need any work trousers! I do have some sort of peg leg drawstring trousers from H&M (sound way less nice than they are!) which still fit. But it’s heatwave time! I didn’t get on great with ASOS last time round (ended in miscarriage) as I am really short. I am in a properly pregnant dress today! It’s from Mamalicious and I quite like it! From Amazon, naturally!

You so don’t want the boobs! I’m telling you they are like melons!

My scarves are a silk one off amazon (weirdly super cheap! Just do a search and click on the other things you might like) plus two cheapies from Primark. I was going to get some from Oliver Bonas but they were like £22 each which seemed like a rip off. £4 in Primarni!

Definitely bump 🙂 yay for almost being halfway! I am 27 weeks and yet to see about c-section vs natural. I want natural (mostly for curiosity to see if I can do it) but happy with whatever as long as baby is here and healthy! If you want a c-section then go for it, the only person who should choose is you 🙂

It is wintet here at the moment so I am living in maternity jeans, best things ever!

  11. You look amazing and totally pregnant! So fun to see!!!! I love this update…it’s such a happy time for you and, even though you are still slightly reserved about the pregnancy, I can hear the excitement in your words. I have been there! Can’t wait for your 20 week scan. Then you should feel really good. And the quickening! That’s so exciting too! I am just so delighted for you and love hearing your updates. Enjoy this sweet time! I think I enjoyed every minute of being pregnant, but even still…my hubby asked if I miss being pregnant the other day, and I could honestly answer not at all! Once baby arrives, it’s so fantastic to enjoy that next step. And, you will feel SO skinny! I gained tons of weight and still have 20 pounds to go, but somehow I feel very acceptable! It’s a weird sensation and process, but I hope you enjoy every minute (even the stretch marks that I also have all over my ginormous boobs!). It’s all for a wonderful reason! Big hugs!

Thanks love! It feels so weird. I am feeling more and more of those little sensations so I figure it must be him kicking! So strange! I thought it would be harder somehow. But I suppose he’s only the size of an artichoke (?!) according to one of my pregnancy apps. I am trying to settle in and enjoy it like Courtney ordered me to do! 😂 I think when I can just relax and be like, “I’m totes pregnant” I will be forced to enjoy it! It feels weird today as I’m wearing a maternity dress and it’s really difficult to disguise anything and it’s so hot so I’m just like, whatever!

So great to hear that the phase you are in is good! And I am glad in a weird way you have the boobs and everything too because I always see your photos and think, she’s so glamorous and gorgeous! Ha! It gives me hope! 😂 Sending you love. Xx

      1. Yes, the kicks will get stronger every week! It will get even better! I kind of hid behind big clothing until I couldn’t anymore too…but it’s also nice to be at a stage where you can embrace it and know statistically nothing should happen unusually from here! You are so sweet…yes, I have the boobs and a few stretch marks oddly on the sides of my abdomen – I wonder if all the belly lotions really did help a bit as I probably missed my sides and definitely my boobs? 🙂 Anyway, I figured those are the best places for stretch marks because, if I ever wanted to wear a two piece again, I think I could without too many stretchies showing (but I also love women who just put them out there and are proud of their journey!)…anyway, pregnancy changes your body and so does breastfeeding, but it’s not like we are 19 and out frolicking anymore! I don’t mind too much! Sending you much love too!

Yeah I don’t think anyone would have noticed until today. I definitely feel properly pregnant now because my bump seems huuuuge although the app tells me he is only the size of an artichoke/dragon fruit about to turn into a grapefruit on Wednesday! And apparently the biggest is a WATERMELON. OMG. I don’t think that’s doing anything for my desire to have a natural childbirth?!

You are so right. Stretch marks don’t really matter in the whole scheme of things! Now you have your little one I’m sure you can see them in a different light. And anyway I’m sure all kids think their mum (mom!) is beautiful… That’s the important thing right?! We are definitely not 19 any more! Haha! X

Now that is definitely a baby bump!! It looks so cute in the stripey top!
I have started shopping in primark for some clothes to fit me just now. I have found they are quite good for longer t shirts and vests and I bought a couple of t shirt dresses which are so comfy, I just bought the size biggger. I feel like I need new clothes but I don’t want to spend a huge amount of money on them so primark is my new go to shop. I will have to have a look at these soft bras you are talking about! i sometimes still need one to sleep in and I bought a few sloggi ones (felt like my granny buying them) but they aren’t supportive enough.

Fingers crossed the maternity pillow helps you sleep a bit better.

I think poeple at work will have guessed you are pregnant, there is no mistaking that bump for a fat belly, its too perfectly round!

You need too start enjoying this pregnany!! you are nearly 20 weeks and you are feeling some movement, its time to stop the what ifs and enjoy it!

Thank you! Yeah I live in stripey tops so when I found out you can get pregnancy versions in New Look, I bought about 3!

Totally get what you mean about the Sloggi bras. I used to have some. And the Uniqlo ones are a bit like that. Now I’m busting out. I thought the sleep bras would be more comfy but actually they are only if you’re not moving much. For daily life you need proper support! I’m happy with the mothercare ones so far as they’re super supportive and will double up as nursing bras later on.

I get what you mean about not wanting to spend loads too! I’ve tried to get cheap stuff! I found New Look good as there’s one near me. It’s easier to try stuff on as you’re not your usual size.

Point taken re the pregnancy! I’ll definitely try! ☺️ x

Yeah I just like they bras for when I am lazing around the house and for sleeping in. I bought a couple of triumph non-wired bras for work which are so comfy! I have bought one nursing bra which I think is a Royce one which is reasonably comfortable.

I need to try new look, might do that this weekend.x

Don’t get overexcited about New Look! It is a bit rubbish! But I like the jeans (I have super skinny black ones, about £22 I think, two pairs). They’re more comfy than the M&S ones as they’re stretchy. Plus think they’re more flattering. The M&S ones made me look the size of a house. And the tops are quite good basics. They had a few Breton striped colours plus some block colours and they’re 2 for £12 (or maybe it’s £15) so pretty cheap, and they seem to wash quite well.

Those Kindred Bravely bras are like an over the head sports style bra. They are pretty comfy for lying around in. I usually go without but the bazookas are too big to be comfortable now! I have one size M and now a size L, and am probably between the two right now.

I am more thinking for tops, everything is getting so short on me now. So will have a look for that.

I have some sort of soft crop tops that are like that that I have worn a few times around the house. My boobs are normally an F cup so I have no idea what it’s like to be comfortable without a bra on lol

Have you started shopping for the baby yet? or are you still too anxious?

Oh yeah. The longer bump/ruffles thing does help I think!

Wow F!!!! I think I would faint! 😂 I am really short so I think it would be odd for me to have much larger boobs!

I haven’t shopped for B yet but have earmarked the pram I want (super expensive, T’s trying to talk me out of it!) and I have an idea of what we need. I think we would probably hold off a while. Mothercare are doing an expectant parents evening in October (our local store) and you can get 10% off everything so we might get stuff there. And maybe on Black Friday too. I don’t think we will get loads of stuff though. Will just buy it as we need it!

Yeah they can be a bit of a pain being so big. Luckily my bum is quite big so it evens itself oout. I am barely 5ft2 which is why I think my bump is so big already, the baby doesn’t really have anywhere to go other than out the way lol

What’s the pram? We ordered a Bugaboo which is super expensive but I had my heart set on it. I went to the Mamas and Papas parent to be event and got £200 off it which was great. It’s really the only big thing we have so far.

Haha! Similar to me! I like to kid myself I’m taller but we are probably the same size. 😂 I definitely feel just this week my bump has grown even more. Not sure if it’s a growth spurt or something but my ribs feel like they’ve expanded, if you get me?

Pram is the Cybex Priam. I really love it. Although I think it’s a bit expensive! I don’t think we’d get the carrycot though so would save on that at least. Also not so bothered about the travel system thing (like a car seat that you can attach to the pram) as we have eight flights of stairs so B will probably wake up anyway! It would be nice to get money off. Sure we can shop around and anyway T will probably talk me out of it. In theory we can get anything at the Mothercare event for 10% off… They said that anyway.

I also like the look of the 4moms origami which is the self folding and unfolding pram! But that is definitely a gimmick! 😂

Yeah I know what you mean about the ribs. It’s weord how much it changes shape over the weeks as well, my bump is looking a bit pointy just above my belly button at the moment, it’s weird lol
I looked at a Cybex one as well but I wanted bigger wheels at the front so it was more all terrain so went for the Bugaboo Buffalo. I won’t be going for a matching car seat, I’m not particularly bothered if it can fit on the pram, I wouldn’t use it for that, plus you have to buy the adaptors seperately with the Bugaboo and I don’t want to waste money on things.
I’ve never seen the 4moms one, might have a look just to be nosey

My bump is super round which is why I felt like it must be flab instead of bump! But it has some real substance behind it now!

I do like the Cybex design and live in London so the chances of me off roading are quite slim! Also with you on the car seat. B is going to wake up having to be carried up 8 flights of stairs (plus the 24 stairs inside to the bedroom, haha, we are so practical!) so I don’t think we need one to have to carry him upstairs! We don’t even have a car yet anyway! 😂😂

Yeah it doesn’t make any sense at all for you to use the car seat for that. That is a lot of stairs!!

ughhhhh! The rips in the jeans! I wondered if it was just the one store I go to in the US, but apparently maternity clothes designers GLOBALLY think that we want rips in all of our jeans!!! I have 2 pairs of maternity jeans without rips, and I am pretty sure that is all they make! Don’t they realize that we can’t all wear ripped jeans to work???

    Cute bump!!!

So annoying and I totally would wear them to work if they weren’t so ripped! 😂

I think you’re absolutely rocking the bump. I’m only 15 weeks but my bump is humongous bearing in mind I’ve just had 10 weeks off including sick leave I think the entire school will notice when I go back.

I can entirely empathise on the boob front – I’ve gone from a 30DD to a 34E and they are huge and sore.

An amazing friend of mine gave me a bag of maternity clothes so I’m now enjoying life in stretchy jeans and leggings. H&M do some really nice casual things but I have struggled to find clothes that will be appropriate for work so I’m going to take a leaf out of your book and hit Amazon.

Absolutely love your TOMS. I’d live in TOMS and Converse if only I could!

Haha bless you. I did disguise it for a long time but I think we have reached breaking point now! The bump is out and proud! 😊

Omg the humungaboobs!!!! I don’t envy you! I hope I don’t get even bigger otherwise I’ll look like a giant rack of boobs! 😂

I have heard good things about H&M. Just the thought of Oxford street though… Urgh! I seem to be doing okay with Mamalicious on Amazon! I’m trying not to go overboard on stuff and just buy some basics. So jeans and Breton tops for casual, and dresses for work and dress up! Done! I am so bad with leggings. Totally can’t seem to get on board with wearing them as trousers! Even though I’m wearing skinny jeans all the time! I feel like I’m wearing tights if I wear leggings! 😂

Get yourself some TOMS! Sale on now on the website! Perfect excuse! 😇

  17. I totally get your cautiousness – been there myself – but . . . aren’t you already at the halfway mark? (Never having gone through pregnancy, I am just going by math here . . . 9 months = 38+ weeks).
I also have to add that 36 D is not so frightening. I’ve been there since my college years. Without the excuse of pregnancy.
Seriously though, I always love getting your updates and am so happy for you.

Thank you. I’m almost halfway through. 19 weeks tomorrow and then another week and I’ll be at 20, which is apparently halfway through. I find the weeks / months thing rather confusing!

36D is fine for some people I think. I am a total short arse though so it is pretty large for me. DD is another size up from D! I’m not sure why they have D and DD but they do! So imagine that’s 2 cup sizes larger than I usually am, and maybe almost twice the size cup wise! It’s a lot! 😂

  18. Yay! Lovely bump and you are not fat silly! 🙂 so awesome to know we are so close! I will be 20 weeks on Sunday. Oh and I too have been dealing with sinus, dry bloody noses at night! Ugh so I bought those strips that go on your nose to open up your nostrils and have been a miracle! I am able to sleep like a baby! I too just started feeing the flutters last Friday when I was almost 19 weeks!!! Love reading your status 🙂 take care!

The flutters do seem to be increasing in frequency now! It’s quite strange and lovely to think that is B making his presence known! Hope you are enjoying it! X

  19. If you need any more bras, check out Bravado bras for totally the most comfortable best nursing bras. You can get on Amazon. Once I got mine I never wore my mothercare ones again as they felt so uncomfortable in comparison. The bravado ones can also be converted back to normal bras.

  24. Way behind the times here, so slowly catching up 🙂

I have got all the same lotions and potions that you have got. That Cocoa Belly Butter one is odd. I think that’s the way it’s supposed to be (i.e. rock hard) which I’m not really a fan of. I’ve also been mixing it up with normal Cocoa Butter (second time round I got the ‘fragrance free’ one as it makes you smell slightly less like a walking chocolate bar) and Bio Oil. I don’t know if you have a Boots Advantage Card, but I signed up for this ‘parenting club’ (or something similar) and I get sent various vouchers each month, including a voucher for 25% off Bio Oil. It’s still expensive but that helps! This pregnancy/baby world is certainly expensive!!x
